Came across this bug while testing the new inter-op between Motionbuilder and Maya. It seems like the one click inter-op characterization function in Maya does not push the reference joint over to Mobu.

This is my current workflow when encountering this bug

  • -create HumanIK skeleton in Maya
  • Group the HumanIk skeleton to an null group
  • Characterize
  • The reference control character control works in Maya
  • Send to motionbuilder ( add to scene )
  • The reference control character control in motionbuilder breaks and doesnt work
  • If I go the other way round and create the character in Motionbuilder > send to maya, the reference works just fine

I might be doing something wrong, but have tried a few times.

seagull 3dProduced this little seagull while I was on work experience, all up it took me 2 days to complete, from modeling, sculpting, texturing, rigging and skinning. Used Maya and Mudbox.

Not really meant for close ups, but it does hold up quiet decent if I have normal and displacement maps on.

Tommorow is my last day on work experience, back to Anomaly I guess!

Big thanks to Peter and Grant from BigBridge for putting up with me, today I started my first day of work experience with the post production and multi-media house BigBridge. What a awesome environment to work in, hopefully they might want to keep me on after the five days :)

On another topic I finished my remix of Shapeshifters track, Longest Day. Only took me a day to do this, so don’t expect the mastering to be spot on, but I like the result neverless.

Test render from Maya of the final rigged and skinned creature from the short film Anomaly. No texture has been applied and creature is missing his eyes and teeth.

Motioncapture was used for the animation with optical cleanup and first round of corrective animation done in Motionbuilder, addressing major joint rotation problems.

Interpenetration will be fixed in the next round along with 2ndary animation etc.

Here is a quick render of the final creature basemesh which has been rigged with HumanIK, skin weights havent been painted properly yet, so theres a fair bit of pulling in some parts, which will be fixed. Finally we can see the creature’s forms in all its glory.

The world to come started life as a charcoal mural on my sketchpad which was than scanned and parts extracted for the final digital piece.
Photoshop was used to combine various parts of the original mural to produce the final 9 block piece.
This piece reflects the artists personal emotions and views towards the world as it is and as it will become.
