Nothing too special just practicing my figure drawing, concentrating on getting good proportions.

Well Its finally here! I present to you my first feature production titled ‘ Orange ‘ .

The piece combines 3 scenes each with their distinctive style and an original score written and produced for the project. The theme of this piece is the color ‘ Orange ‘ – There were no restrictions on techniques to be used, so I chose to produce the whole piece in 3D – using Autodesk’s Maya. Without any subject limitations I decided to base my video on orange roses.

Act 1 – A warmly lit scene with vibrant earthy colors – A garden bed of roses move in unison until they are disrupted by a force which causes them to rise and fall like ocean waves. The roses explode to reveal the word Orange than ends with a close track into the word.

Act 2 – A cold. dimly light scene set ontop or within the deep snowy peaks of a mountain. A smaller bed of roses are thriving somehow sitting ontop of a natural spring, the roses are battered with wind and turbulence, which causes them to loose their petals beautifully, however these roses are special – their petals regenerate immediately. The birds eye camera rotates 180 around the scene and ends with a close shot of the roses.

Act 3 – As the music climaxes, this scene is all about movement and impact, where glowing streaks of orange light stream across the screen and finally the scene ends with explosions of orange rose petals.

Much toil and sweat over the last few weeks have gone into this short 2 minute video art project, I am happy to say the result was worth it. I have learned a whole lot of new techniques, which I will share with you in the next post.

In the meantime, I hope you find the video enjoyable.

Here it is! My first completed pre viz video assessment. Roughly 8 camera rigs rendered in Maya playblast and composited in Adobe Premiere. Music is from the Sherlock Holmes original soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.

Feedback appreciated, thanks for watching!

Taking inspiration from the female body, I spent a good few hours penning these sketches on the weekend. The sketches are based on 2 great documentaries online at sbs.com.au -

  1. ” Lin Hwai-Min: Cloud Gate Dance Theatre Full Ep ” – Lin Hwai-min is the choreographer, director and founder of the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan. Lin talks intimately about his life, influences, work and troupe of dancers.

  2. “SBS Video: Crazy Horse: The Revival Full Ep” – Uncovering the sexiest cabaret in the world, this film follows the reopening of Paris’ infamous remodeled Crazy Horse.

Both of these films contain powerful images of the female body in motion, one a more seductive side and one a more artistic side. Yet each instilled a powerful image of the female naked body, her body lines – beautiful curves; Her hands with their graceful poses.

Drawing & modeling the human body is considered one of the most difficult task, due to the exact proportion, each part of the body fits and complements each other to produce such gracefulness.

My drawings are not meant to be polished, just a study into the curves and lines of the female body. I used a black marker for these drawings in preference to the usual pencil as I wanted to really accentuate the body lines.

Fridays are a treat at college, part of the afternoon class lets the students use the state of art motion capture system Blade. Having a gadget fetish I find it very ummm – ‘ full filling ‘ to be let loose to use all the expansive equipment.

The motion capture studio has 8 tracking cameras equipped with hi-resolution lenses hooked up to the latest version of Blade mo-cap software.

Here are some photos of the session last Friday.
